There's no word in Latin (that I know of) that would express this. The best way I can think to translate this is with and ablative of means and an adverb:
fide solum
Keep in mind that I am NOT currently a Latin student specializing in the reception or even Medieval Latin (which would have more biblical stuff like this). My knowledge is largely concentrated on the late Republic and early Empire. There may be another single word in later Latin by which one can convey this idea.
solus is the latin word for alone ( it is a latin root and can have endings added to it )
It means "alone" or "single" when applied to a feminine subject.
fides To add to this: The Latin translation of faith is first dependent on the context in which the word is used. For example, first there is faith in a friend as a matter of simple trust. The Latin for simple faith is fides. Second, there is fiducia--hence, fiducial. A fiduciary friend is one on whom one can rely. "A friend in time of need, is a friend in deed." Religious faith is expected to be the fiducial kind.
Rainbow = Arcus Iris; also either word alone. Horace used "arcus pluvius," however most Romans probably just said "arcus."
fide in Latin means faith--- as in Bona Fide (in good faith) Confide (discuss with faith/trust), Fidelity (faithful devotion to on another).
yes. they believe faith is practiced alone Latin roots: -Sol=alone -Fid=faith
Alone is an English word, however, the Latin translation of 'alone' is 'solus'.
The English word for the Latin word "solus" is "alone" or "only".
The Latin word for believe is credo, credere. We get the word "credit" from it.
solus is the latin word for alone ( it is a latin root and can have endings added to it )
Fides is the Latin word for faith, fide would be the ablative case, meaning "by faith"
The Latin root word for trust is "fidere," which means "to trust" or "to have faith in."
Latin - 'in good faith'.
It means "alone" or "single" when applied to a feminine subject.
The Latin word fidei means "of faith".
"Solus" is a Latin word that means "alone" or "by oneself" in English.
The Latin word solus is equivalent to the English word "alone or one".
