The story line for the play, "Hobson's Choice" is as follows: The plot revolves around Willie Mossop, a gifted shoemaker employed by Henry Horatio Hobson. Content with his lot, he is persuaded by Hobson's eldest daughter, Maggie (over the hill in Victorian terms at the ripe old age of 30), into marrying her and setting up in a shop of his own. Thanks to her sales talent and his workmanship, Maggie and Willie's business is very successful and, within a year, they have taken nearly all Hobson's trade. At Maggie's urging, Willie goes into partnership with Hobson, now an almost-bankrupt alcoholic, on condition that Hobson take no further part in the business, apart from his name on the window
