apart from the lead character"s fatal pride- and one wonders why her Admiral Zsa Zsa Gabor brand of show-offishness- She was Married to Mr. Loisel, right, why did she have come on with all big guns on deck- attracting men at a social outing. I don"t say it is wrong for married women to go to such things as Card Parties ( which brings up another vice- gambling) but it is not well, unless they happen to be hosting the Ball- like the Late Princess Grace- not really proper. Up to a point the original owner of the necklace- MMe Forestier ( forester or maybe Parks) should have told MMe loisel before hand it was only a replica, much misery could have been avoided and a concurrent crash-dive into poverty. sort of Cinderella in Reverse.

Either fatal pride in the case of MMe Loisel ( not a real character but a trait!) or possibly MMe Forestier ( which means forester- Parks might be a good translation. Had MMe Forestier informed MMe Loisel From the beginning the Necklace was a wearing copy or counterfeit much misery would have been avoided- it is confusing if it took her ten or twenty years to pay off the debt- also I can"t imagine why she did not immediately call MMe Forestier ( phones were extant in this time frame) on the loss- and explained the whole situation. It is kind of vague exactly how the property was lost- maybe she was drunk and left it down carelessly- well a comment on vanity and pride run amuck- but I doubt it could happen in real life for the above reasons. I think the item was stolen. I lost a Nikon camera to a sneak thief last summer so it can happen. IM glad it was my own and not a loaned job. oh well Neither a borrower nor a lender be- or was that Franklin?
