Jill Nelson, wrote the short story 'Number One,' which as based on family discussions and lessons she and her siblings received from their father as they were children growing up. As the family was gathered around the dinner table, Jill's father would impart the importance of being "number one." This was also discussed in Ms. Nelson's first book, entitled 'Voluntary Slavery: My Authentic Negro Experience,' a best seller.
