Sometimes women have kept their maiden names or first husband's last names on a deed or a credit card. The credit report turns up 4 names for the same person based on their SS#, so they use etal. instead of Mary Smith, Mary T. Smith, Mary T Jones, Mary Theresa Smith, MT Smith, etc.......
