Secondary products of domesticated animals are obtained from living animals and are renewable periodically. They might include such things as eggs, feathers, wool, hair, milk, dung, which may be used for making fires, fertilizer or plaster in some parts of the world, as well as physical power for plowing, hauling or transportation, and anything else that does not require the death of the animal.

Primary products of domesticated animals include such things as meat, bone tools, marrow, hides or skins, sinew, hooves, horns or antlers, and other by-products that necessitate slaughter of the animal. Primary products are renewable only through breeding, trade or capture.
