it really depends on the context;
for example, you could say, "it depends a lot"
but it sounds less formal, so you can re-format your sentence or find a synonym -

On the other hand, if it were used in the context of "They talk a lot." then other terms, such as a great deal or quite a bit, would probably fit better.
