I assume you are talking about china plates and bowls that have been decorated with a gold rim. This gold is usually listed as being 22K or 24K gold. Each plate has less than 1/100 of a gram of gold, so although it may seem like a profitable idea to scrape the gold off some old china and sell it, it would take approximately 2800 plates to equal 1 ounce of gold. That's a lot of work, and a lot of money spent to buy gold rimmed plates.
