July 26, 2009 The last Large Cent with the Matron Head was minted in 1836. In 1848 the Young Head Type was being produced. The Philadelphia mint struck 6,415,799 of these cents. There is a contemporary counterfeit of the 1848 Large Cent described as a "small date". The values for the 1848 Large Cent in various grades are shown in the chart below.
