"Mint error" does not describe a coin. There are many possible mint errors that could have happened. Here are some possibilities:
Off center strikes- Those that are 20 40 percent off center are valued at $5-$30. Those over 40% up to a hundred
Clipped Planchets- These are coins are incomplete due to improperly cut blanks. The value ranges from $3 to $75 dollars
Cracks and cuds- Up to $20
Broadstrikes- these are coins that were struck outside the retaining collar. Without the collar the coins spread out and are larger than the normal pieces. If
the coin normally has a reeded edge it will be missing. Values range around $10 however very wide and well centered pieces will bring more.
These are just some of the possibilities. If none of these answer your question the best thing to do is go to your local coin collector and have them take a look at the coin.
Sometimes it can be beneficial to have the coin graded by a grading service such as PCGS. They will authenticate the coin and give some details to the type of mint error

If the coin is smaller than 38.1mm, then it either was not issued by the US Mint and thus has no numismatic value or it was struck on a half dollar planchet. If the design on your coin is complete and has no missing words or numbers then it is not from the US Mint and has no numismatic value. If it about the size of a half dollar and part of the design is missing then it is could be an error coin. If you think it could be an error coin, you may want to take it to a dealer for identification.
