1972 Type 2 (or II) Eisenhower dollars are considered to be the "king" of the Ike series. The term is applied to a small (100,000 or fewer) Philadelphia coins struck using a special high-relief die intended for making uncirculated and proof coins at San Francisco.

As of 01/2011, Type II Ikes retail for anywhere from $78 in MS60 condition to $1800 in MS65. A few MS66's are known and have brought spectacular prices, upwards of $16,000.
