Half dollars made in 1971 and later are made of copper-nickel and are only worth face value.

Halves dated 1965 to 1969 are 40% silver and are worth about $2.75

Earlier halves are worth at least $6 for their silver content but may be worth much more to a collector. If your coin is older than 1955, please post a new and more detailed question with the coin's date and mint mark, if you can locate it.
