Can I use any standard propane tank with the Weber Performer gas grill?

Can you put gasoline in a gasoline automobile? The propane tanks ARE liquid propane. The gas evaporates as it is released. There is no physical way to store propane as a gas, therefore, it must be stored as a liquid.

sure, as long as it's lit or off. If there's a problem with the gasline or the valve has been left in the 'on' position, that means there's gas being released, uncombusted, creating a potential problem.

Imagine this: the bbq lid is closed, you've openned the valve and gotten distracted before lighting the bbq. (always light with the lid open, btw). All that gas is being released, pooling under the lid cuz it's got nowhere to go. So you come back to your bbq with a smoke in your face, and open the lid. At the same time with your other hand you flick your lighter to lite your smoke and Kaboom!! bye bye eyebrows.

But as long as the gas is being consumed in a safe way (ie through a properly lit bbq), you should be just fine. But don't smoke while cooking. No one likes ashes in their burgers. ;P
