Not sure what you mean by 'newyork square'. There have only been five recorded cases of fatal maulings by bears in New Yoirk State since 1900: three by black bears and two by polar bears. Both the polar bear maulings happened after the victim climbed fences to get into the polar bear cage at a zoo (one at Brooklyn zoo, one in central park). There were in 1987 and 1982. The three black bear incidents were in 1930, 1933 and 2002. That works out at about one fatal mauling every 22 years. Since NY State has a population of about 20 million, your chances of being mauled to death by a bear in a 77-year lifespan is about one in six million.
