"There's gold in them there hills!" Well, maybe in "them" hills but -- just between me and you -- not at Indian Hills. IHC is a nonprofit, privately owned Christian camp in the foothills of San Diego (there is real gold in those hills -- like Julian). Its focus is toward children so naturally we do a lot of programs geared to them. The "gold mine" activity is one of those outdoor educational programs where kids can live a little California Gold Rush history, learn how to pan for gold, get wet and dirty, and have fun at the same time. The cost to participate in the 50 minute activity is reasonable which would not be the case if we salted the mine with real gold. The technique learn by panning for "IHC gold" can be used, however, to find real gold -- that is, if you know where to find real gold.
