It depends on what is available in the area where they camp. Some campgrounds have full bathroom facilities with flush toilets with separate facilities for men and women. Some campgrounds have portable toilets - simple portable enclosures containing a chemical toilet. Other campgrounds may have just an outhouse where individuals can sit on a surface with a hole in it and the waste material falls into a deep hole dug into the ground. When the hole gets fairly full, a new hole is dug, the outhouse structure is moved, and the previous hole is filled in the rest of the way with soil - usually from the excavation of the new hole. When there are no existing facilities, individuals may dig their own temporary latrine - which they should fill in before they leave the camp site. If they are only camping overnight while hiking, they may just go find a secluded area and make their deposit there - "watering the trees" or squatting next to a tree or rock. In the latter case, they often do not bother covering it up. Sounds gross, but that's reality.
They either use the toilet if one is available or they squat by a tree.
There are a multitude of sites on the web where a camping toilet can be purchased. Beyond the most practical like Amazon, Cabela's and Camping World are also options.
to talk about the guys they are with?
Some environmentally-friendly options for toilet paper while camping include using biodegradable toilet paper, recycled toilet paper, or reusable cloth wipes. These options help reduce waste and minimize environmental impact.

Basically a camping toilet is a portable toilet that is not connected to the mains. From researching this online the most reliable source that I could find that I have used is Amazon. They currently have a 5 gallon portable toilet at half price. This one you fill up with water and flush it like a normal toilet which may make it easier to use. It got excellent reviews.
Kiwi are birds. They do not go camping.
