In the winter thru the ice, basically like you would for northern pike. Bass can feed and hit at times very hard thru the ice. Jigging Rapalas work well for ice-fishing. Just had better luck with those and X-Caliber type rattle baits in the winter. Use a series of different pumps, twitches till u find a strike. The slow rise off the bottom to as high you can reach and lett it fall will draw a stike alot of times. Twitching it/bumping on the bottom works to. In summer, I throw a metal type finish Daredevil or red/white in a small size, no longer than your index finger, for most of my summer fishing for bass when they wont hit a rattle bait. I catch more with that then plastics. Use a short pump upwards or to the side, few fast turns, let it fall for a second to three and so on.
