There are several ways. One is to feel across the edge a sharp knife will feel as if it catches on the ridges of your finger print. How ever you have to be careful you could lay open a finger. Another is the see if it will shave the hair on an arm or leg. Disadvantage you can wind up with big bald spots or nasty nicks. You can also learn yo look at the blade usually under a light if you can see the thickness in the blade edge, if you can it could use some more work.
A sharp knife will cut/slash/chop easier.
A sharp knife cuts much better than a blunt knife. A sharp knife is less likely skid off and cause an accidental wound.
it is as sharp as a steak knife
A blunt knife tends to squash the fruit before cutting. A sharp knife will slice through the fruit without squashing. Less pressure is needed to slice with a sharp knife.
Sharp as a knife means smart. Just like not the sharpest knife in the drawer would be somebody who's not very smart

no because they are sharp like a knife
A dull knife rips the skin, while a sharp knife (think scalpel) slices smoothly. A dull knife would be by far more painful.
"The sharp knife goes where you send it, the dull knife goes where it wants" is a reminder to keep your edges sharp. The dull blade is deflected by a hard material.
the opposite of dull is sharp. like "the dull knife and the sharp knife."=dull means boring and not fun.=
Be careful, that knife is sharp. Don't step on that sharp rock!
