Anorak is a very specific foul-weather garment, pulled over the head, with drawstring neck, and waist, sometimes with a drawstringed hood, made of cariboo hide and waterproofed with fishoil. It is not a cold weather garment, but rather a waterproof garment meant to connect a person to a leakproof kayak. Only used by coastal-dwelling Canadian first-nations people while open water allows fishing, and hunting sessile mammals. The warm, insulated cold-weather fur=trimmed garment, opening down the front, always with an attached hood is called a parka. Only one sniff of an anorak is unforgettable, and will bring a smile to the face of anyone hearing a Brit mention his 'anorak'
