Clown Loach (Chromobotia macracanthus) grows to be quite a large fish (10 inches to 12 inches long) and they should be kept in groups of no less than 5 fish. They will mix well with other peacfull but largish fish like Silver dollars and Bala sharks. The minimum sized tank recommended for these larger species is at least 6 foot long.

Unfortunately there isn't any clown fish (Nemo) look alike that exists. The closest you may get with something stripey that is fresh water (but they are black & orange) would be a clown loach, but they need very large tanks (at least a 75 gallon) as they grow pretty big, and they are a more advanced hobbyist fish.
Simple answer is " No they do not need salt." Clown Loach (Botia macrocantha) are however a large fish and like to be kept in groups (schools) so they need a large aquarium.

No, this is because a goldfish and a clown loach are not compatible and should not be in the same tank. One clown loach needs a 75 gallon tank on it's own as they grow very large. In addition, a clown loach needs warmer water than a goldfish.
In my 20 gallon aqaurium I have three neon tetras and a clown loach which have been togethor for a few months now. So far they have not bothered each other so it would work out if it is a small clown loach and you have other fish in the aquarium as well.
If you are talking about aquarium fish, the clown loach has a barb near to it's eye, which it uses as a defence mechanism. Other fish species have spines concealed in their fins.
