I don't know about the sonic part because sonic implies that there is sound vibrations being used. A welded polyethylene floor of a tent would mean that the seams are melted together to provide a water resistant or waterproof floor for the tent. This sounds good to me. I hate to wake up and find myself floating around the inside of the tent. Been there, did that, didn't like it. Sometimes when manufacturers sell us something they give them big technical sounding names like "Sonic Welded Poly Floor." Ooooohhh... sonic welding, that must be good. I'm not saying that it isn't but names aren't always that important. If it comes with a guarantee that it won't leak, that sounds better to me. <correction> The sonic weld you are referring to is "ultrasonic welding", which uses a piezoelectric crystal. This crystal, when electric currenet is supplied to it, changes in length at very rapid rates. This rapid expansion and contraction causes a weld-head, which can be made of various materials depending on what type of plastic or thickness you are welding, to pulsate and sort of hammer on the plastic at a high frequency. This high frequency, aka ultrasonics, causes the plastic molecules to get excited and share electrons between the two joining surfaces, thus forming your weld. Also, this process creates no heat on the actual weld head, and in turn it creates a superior bond when compared to heat weldng plastic material.

What types of polymer can be welded?

Thermoplastics are commonly welded, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, and acrylic. These materials soften when heated and can be fused together by pressure or using heat sources like hot air, ultrasonic waves, or friction.

How do you replace the floor in a 1987 Pontiac trans am Should it be rivited or welded in What type of welding is best Should the new floor overlap the old floor Other information would be appreciate?

The old floor should be cut out. Preferably with a plasma cutter. The new floor should be welded in. It would probably be best to leave some overlap, flange it and then spot or rosette weld the new floor to the overlap flanges.

Why is welded wire mesh used in concrete?

IT helps strengthen the concrete and prevent cracking But please note usually the "welded wire mesh" used in concrete is named reinforcing mesh, its wire is ribbed. And the wire of welded wire mesh in industry usually is plain, it used for fence panel, floor heating system and so on. The following are reinforcing mesh and welded wire mesh link. dingzhenfence.com/product/Welded_Wire_Mesh.html dingzhenfence.com/product/Welded%20Wire%20Mesh

What can you use to glue wood to polyethylene?

Polyethylene is one of those very slippery new plastics that nobody has developed a suitable glue for. -In plumbing use, it's 'hot air welded' and even in simple pipe application thre is no transfer cement or glue that will melt it. If I had your problem, I would try to find a suitable 'mechanical' method -possibly screws or rivets.

What can be used to patch polyethylene?

Specialized adhesives designed for polyethylene, such as polyethylene adhesive or polyethylene repair tape, can be used to patch polyethylene materials. These products are formulated to bond effectively with polyethylene, providing a secure and durable patch. Additionally, heat welding or using a polyethylene welding kit can also be an effective method for patching polyethylene.
