Commercial crabbers use wire cages, referred to as pots, to catch crabs. The pots are baited with menhadden, or some other baitfish, then lowered into the water. The pot rests on the bottom, and the crabs enter through a small opening. Once the prey enters, it cannot find it's way out, thus it is trapped until the crabber returns to shake the pot.
