Chimborazo, the highest mountain in Ecuador, derives its name from the indigenous Quechua words "chimborazo," which is believed to mean "to stand or to rise." The mountain's name reflects its majestic stature and prominence in the Andes. Additionally, the name is often interpreted as a combination of "chimpa" (to be above) and "razo" (to be cold), highlighting its lofty elevation and icy peaks.
Machu Pichu is a pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca village on the top of the mountain situated from the urumba village.
[1] Chimborazo is one of the mountain peaks in the Andes. Its name comes from the Quechua Chimburasu, because it's always snow-capped. At 20,702 feet/6,310 meters, it's the highest mountain in Ecuador. [2] But it's not the highest mountain in South America. That title goes to Aconcagua, at 22,834 feet/6,960 meters, in Argentina.
