The short answer is nothing, the day or the rolling block was generally over.
The model 6 wasn't a replacement but an inexpensive alternative to compete against other vendors and was basically made concurrently.
The Remington model 4 rolling block rifle was made between 1890-1933.If you have a model 4S military rifle, then these were made by Remington from 1913-1923.your rifle has either a 22.5in barrel,or a 24in barrel. These were chambered in .22,.25 Stevens,or 32 caliber.
You will have to contact Remington.
In the year 1890,as a model No.4 rolling block rifle.

Hi, has anyone answered your question on the Model 4 buttplate yet? I need one also! Jim in SC Dukes9543@aol.com
That maybe you reading the serial no wrong? They only made around 307K of them ending in 1931.
Remington never made the Model 4 in 270 Winchester.
Have you tried the Remington Arms web-site? From the information that I have the Number 4 rolling block rifle was made in the following variations: No. 4 Rolling Block Rifle, manufactured from 1890 to 1933 in .22 S-L-LR, .25 Stevens (barrel may be marked "25-10"), or .32 short or long rimfire calibers. Cadet Model (pre-dates the Boy Scout Model) only manufactured from 1911 to 1912..........very rare No. 4-S "Boy Scout Model" caliber .22 S-L-LR No. 4-S Rolling Block Rifle Military (commonly marked "MILITARY MODEL") or "AMERICAN BOY SCOUT" which is also very rare. These were thought to have been used by military academies for training cadets.
Actually, there are two completely different rifles that have the "Model 4" designation. A rolling block rifle chambered for .22 rimfire and .25 Stevens was built from 1890 to 1933. Then there was a High Grade Model 7400, designated the Model FOUR, that was made from 1981 until 1987 in various centerfire calibers.
It is unusual vs. rare
