Rottweil Laser Sabot Slug supposedly replaced the old Hastings slug. They are very highly recommended for hastings barrels.
Whatever the correct ammunition is for that gauge. Sabot-loaded slugs tend to be somewhat more accurate than so-called "rifled" slugs in most guns.
rifled choke tubes for sabot slugs and cylinder or improved cylinder choke tube for foster type slugs. you can shoot slugs with semi-auto. experiment to find what cycles the best without jamming.
Assuming you mean the Remington 870 shotgun, with a scope- is your barrel rifled? If so, sabot slugs are generally the most accurate. If smoothbore, then rifled slugs will be most accurate.
Yes. Rifled slugs are intended for smoothbore barrels (abot slugs aer for RIFLED barrels). Best accuracy with rifled slugs is USUALLY a modified choke, but can be safely fired thru any choke less than EXTRA full choke.
Rifled slugs are actually INTENDED for smoothbore shotguns. Sabot slugs are intended for rifled shotguns. Performance will vary from gun to gun, but Modified choke seems to give the best accuracy with rifled slugs for many shotguns.
Yes but make sure you use rifled slugs. DON'T USE SABOT SLUGS. those require a rifled barrel. I use winchester super X rifled slugs in my pardner and inside of 70 yards I hit with a good grouping. Of-course, use the brand that works best with your gun.
There is no choke for a shotgun "slug", however if you are firing slugs from your shotgun you should get a slug barrel, or cantilever barrel if your shotgun can alternate barrels. If your shotgun cannot do that then you must purchase an alternate gun that is for slugs or get a shotgun that can alternate barrels like i said. If you want to shoot accurately. Technically otherwise you aren't supposed to fire a slug from a field barrel and in some states it is illegal because of the inaccuracy it may wound a deer. ----- For many many years it has been recommended that a cylinder choke or an improved cylinder choke in a smoothbore shotgun barrel is best for slug accuracy. It is not recommended that one fire slugs through full chokes. --230RN
Improved-cylinder, or skeet barrel. "Modified or full-choke barrels (in any make gun) simply will not shoot slugs or buckshot as well as the more open chokes." --Edward A. Matunas; "Deer Hunter's Guide to Guns, Ammo and Equipment", 1983
Yes- but accuracy with slugs in any double barreled shotgun is not the best- the lines of the barrels converge. Imagine a very large X. Right barrel will shoot somewhat to the left, left barrel to the right.
Please dont shoot slugs through a 32" barrel A5. That is undoubtedly a full choke and shooting slugs through it can damage that barrel, which by itself is worth $300. Slug barrels are typically 24" in length with an Improved Cylinder choke.
Yes. Slugs can be fired in any modern shotgun. It is best to use an improved cylinder barrel. Modified and full chokes are usually not as accurate, and too many slugs can cause them to pattern poorly with shot loads, although it is perfectly safe to use them.
In general, rifled slugs are intended to go through a smooth bore. The twist rates of a rifled slug against a rifled barrel may not agree. If you were trying to get the best out of your rifled barrel I would think that going to a saboted slug would give better performance.
