When you’re shopping for your outdoor patio furniture, you’re probably not thinking about the environment. You’re probably thinking about what would look best in the space you have while not breaking the bank. However, maybe giving a little thought to the environment wouldn’t be such a bad idea, as green outdoor furniture is really starting to take off.

You have the chance to help the environment as well as take home a nice set of patio furniture, just by purchasing some green outdoor furniture. The most popular form of green outdoor furniture is a plastic-based set called HDPE furniture. HDPE stands for high-density polyethylene, which is a form of plastic. What makes this HDPE furniture so green is that it’s made from recycled plastic containers, like milk jugs and water bottles.

You might think that HDPE furniture is a bunch of bottles stacked together resembling a chair. While this may be a very artsy statement to make, that’s simply not the case. Most of the time, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a piece of HDPE furniture and a piece of non-HDPE furniture unless one was labeled. HDPE furniture makes up some of the most modern and stylish outdoor furniture pieces we have.

Some people, though, just don’t like the look of plastic outdoor furniture, which is understandable. If you’re going to spend money on your outdoor furniture, you have to get what you like. Luckily, though, there’s other green furniture that you can find that may be a little more your style. You can find green furniture made from wood as well as plastic. The wooden furniture is made from recycled lumber, much like the recycled plastic that makes up the HDPE.

From Adirondack chairs to tables, benches and gliders, if you decide to go green, you’re going to have to shell out green as well. You can wind up spending as much as $500 on a single piece if you’re not careful, so make sure you compare prices and look for deals.

You may not be changing the world immediately by purchasing green outdoor furniture, but you are making an impact on the environment. Green furniture promotes eco-friendly principles like recycling, which in turn helps save the earth. Just by picking up HDPE furniture over conventional furniture, you can contribute to an eco-friendly world.
