Moreno Valley is a pleasant city located in Riverside County, California. Situated in the

Inland Empire, Moreno Valley is a moderate commute to San Diego to the south; the San

Bernadino Mountains to the north; the Coachella Valley to the east; and Los Angeles to

the west. It is the second-largest city in Riverside County, with Riverside being the largest

in population.

Moreno Valley, once inhabited by the Shoshone Indian Tribe, has a well-documented

history dating back to the 1800s. With the first American settlers in 1850, the area was

known mostly for farming. In 1918, Moreno Valley became famous for the construction of

March Field, an airfield built by the United States Air Force to train fighter pilots during

World War I. Moreno Valley, as well as the neighboring cities of Sunnymead and

Edgemont grew rapidly. March Field later became a training facility for military pilots

during World War II, and population levels continued to rise. In the early 1990s, Moreno

Valley's economy declined, and March Field was reorganized to become March Air

Reserve Base, as it remains today. In addition to being a Reserve Base, the facility now

houses a ball park that is home in the summer to the semi-pro baseball team, the Inland

Empire Rockets.

The early 2000s brought another growth explosion to Moreno Valley with the expansion

of industry. Large companies like U-Haul, Lowe's, Target, Wall-Mart, Best Buy, and

Starbucks began to move into Moreno Valley and surrounding areas, bringing with them

huge numbers of new residents and workers. Today communities are flourishing with

major markets, restaurants, and premier shopping at the Moreno Valley Mall.

Moreno Valley boasts two major hospitals: Kaiser Permanente Community Hospital and

Riverside County Regional Medical Center. Both facilities are equipped for Acute Care

with Emergency Services, and Riverside County offers a Level II Trauma Center.

Moreno Valley Unified School District offers residents thirty-five schools, including five

high schools. Riverside Community College and Chapman University have a campus in

Moreno Valley, with the nearby city of Riverside housing the main campuses of Riverside

Community College, University of California, Riverside, and California State University,

San Bernadino.

Just south of Moreno Valley is Lake Perris State Park, with a beautiful lake for swimming,

fishing, boating and water skiing. Just off route 60 is the Moreno Valley Ranch Golf

Course, listed as one of the top 75 US golf courses by Golf Magazine. Moreno Valley has

street fairs, art exhibits, equestrian trails, bike trails, organized sports, 32 family parks, and

yes, 1 Hound Town Dog Park.
