It depends on the State, and WHAT APT. COMPLEX you apply. I was convicted 27yrs. ago, and when I applied for Subsized Housing (section 8) at a building called Avon Towers, in Rochester, MI, I WAS TURNED DOWN due to the felony conviction of QUARTER OF A CENTURY, PREVIOUS!!! I appealed it, and during that process, the young staff in charge of such appeals, asked me to 'show them some proof that I had been thru Rehab or completed a treatment program"...I told her that "it was SO LONG AGO, when there WERE NO such places as she was talking about. you just kicked your drug addictions cold turkey, did your jail time, and went about your merry way". So, she didn't understand that it happened years before SHE WAS BORN, and she didn't know the firs thing about Rights of Low-Income Families to Fair & Equal Housing Act. Anyways, I was not accepted. So I figured, 'why bother living in a discriminatory place anyways?' The next place I tried was completely liberal and open-minded. When I told them "hey, I was convicted 20+yrs. ago of Delivery of controlled substance....she only said "well, I appreciate your honesty & candor, and as long as there is NOTHING IN THE PAST FEW TO FIVE YRS. is there any trouble recently? Then its NOT a problem. So, go figure, its all about WHO you want to live with, pay rent to. People are biased sometimes just for the way you look....i.e. too fat? then you cant be with us at this place; tenants might not want to see you in the pool area. unbelievable, yes BUT IT HAPPENS.

When a case is rated for permanent disability and settled, it is typically referred to as a "permanent disability settlement" or "permanent disability award."
