Somprazol, commonly known as omeprazole, is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the production of stomach acid. It is often prescribed to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. By inhibiting the proton pumps in the stomach lining, omeprazole helps alleviate symptoms like heartburn and promotes healing of the esophagus and stomach. It's generally well-tolerated, but long-term use may have side effects, so it should be taken under medical supervision.
