The Crystal Palace, originally constructed in 1851 for the Great Exhibition in London, used approximately 293,000 glass panes. Designed by Joseph Paxton, its innovative use of glass and iron allowed for a vast and light-filled structure. The palace was later relocated to Penge in 1854, where it continued to draw visitors until its destruction by fire in 1936.
