Paradoxical chest movement is also know as flail chest and is usually caused by trauma to the chest. If a person suffers from broken ribs or punctured lungs, the air movement is reversed. Instead of chest expansion on inhalation, you will notice the skin being sucked in.
Abnormal chest movement refers to irregular or atypical patterns of breathing or chest expansion during respiration. This can manifest as asymmetry in chest rise and fall, retraction of the intercostal spaces, or paradoxical movement where the chest moves inwards during inhalation and outwards during exhalation. Such abnormalities may indicate underlying respiratory issues, trauma, or conditions affecting lung function. Evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.
Flail Segment
it supports the chest it protects the chest it allows movement in the chest
i have the paradoxical bronchospasm
Paradoxical resps come from an airway obstruction. This can be caused by an acute process such as asthma or an exacerbation of COPD or even a mechanical obstruction, such as a piece of food lodging in the trachea. Someone who is in respiratory distress of any sort will have these resps and it is indicative of an extremely urgent situation, if not, emergent. Hope that this helps!!! clkfrau1@aol.com Paradoxical respirations are seen as movement of the chest wall opposite of what one would expect to see, i.e. inflation of the lung during expiration, and deflation of the lung during inspiration. This occurs usually after blunt trauma to the chest, resulting in flail chest (loss of stability of the thoracic cage due to multiple rib fractures, and/or separation of the ribs from the sternum) or with paralysis of the diaphragm. I believe the above answer may be referring to a similar term--paroxysmal respirations.
The Paradoxical Commandments was created in 2002.
Oscillation in a chest tube refers to the movement of fluid or air within the chest drainage system. It can be observed as a back-and-forth movement of the fluid level in the collection chamber of the chest tube system. Oscillation is a normal finding and indicates proper drainage and ventilation of the chest cavity.
A paradoxical enigma means a contradicting puzzle. Paradoxical means contradictory and an enigma is a problem, challenge, conundrum, riddle, or puzzle.

Paradoxical tamponade is medication that is used to treat pulsus paradoxus.
Chest compressions involve rhythmic pressing down on the chest to help circulate blood when the heart is not pumping effectively. The movement is a downward force applied to the chest while the contraction is a compression of the heart between the sternum and the spine.
