By "Big girls" what age do you have in mind? In general, just like boys, small girls (babies and toddlers) wear diapers (also called nappies) until they are toilet trained. Older children (boys and girls) sometimes wear them if they have problems with incontinence (which means they are unable to control their bladder and may otherways wet themselves). Once girls reach puberty their bodies begin to produce eggs. Once a month an egg whcih has not been fertilized is discharged from their body. It leaves by way of their vagina, along with a small quantity of blood. Many girls wear a sanitary towel to absorb this blood. A sanitary towel is a pad of material which is placed inside their panties and perhaps this is what you are confusing with a diaper. Some girls do not use a sanitary towel but instead use a tampon, which is a small cylinger of absorbant material which is inserted directly into the vagina.
