There is a lot of confusion regarding this. Let me clear this. 'Ananya' is a very pure Hindi word and its pronounciation in Hindi stops at the sound at the same place where you stop 'Aditya'.

अनन्य

The 'ya' at the end brings lot of confusion and people end the pronounciation at 'yaa' which makes it look like a girl's name.

A lot of people hae started naming their girl child as Ananya without literally knowing the meaning and the correct pronounciation of the name.

But people well versed with Hindi language know the difference.

Also, internationally it becomes difficult for people to pronounce this word without the 'yaa' sound as there are no words internationally like that.

So, Ananya is essentially a boy's name. Even Aishwarya

(ऐश्वर्य) would be a boy's name with same issue.

The 'ya' at the end brings all the confusion and makes it look like a girl's name.
