Anticipatory postural control comprises a set of strategies of postural adjustment that an individual uses to prepare for specific voluntary movements (such as catching a ball). These adjustments can be observed in advance of arm and hand movements or whole body movements. The effect is to create a stable postural base on which the intended movement can take place.
