A rising trend in the United States today involves naming newborns. Of course, humans have named their young ones for thousands of years. This particular trend involves naming them with unique, and occasionally downright strange, names. Nothing is necessarily wrong with this phenomenon, but parents often take things too far. Undoubtedly, a huge difference exist between giving someone a unique name and giving them an embarrassing one.

Parents will sometimes give their children a unique spelling of a common name. For instance, Kristopher is a popular twist on the name Christopher. The same applies for Alesia and Alicia. Certain spellings of common names are truly unique and interesting. Sometimes, parents with a famous last name might name their child after an actual celebrity. Depending upon the celebrity, this usually doesn't cause any harm to the child.

Unfortunately, celebrities themselves tend to exhibit poor judgement when naming their own children. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian recently named their child North West after the direction. Rapper Jay-Z and singer Beyonce Knowles named their child Blue Ivy, which isn't as appealing as they think. Throughout the past few years, celebrities have named their children Flower, Tu (last name Morrow), and plenty of other bad names. These children will more than likely only ever be known for their terrible names.

Without a doubt, parents shouldn't shy away from interesting baby names. They should, however, avoid giving their children a name that's downright horrible. Jazz is absolutely a cute name. Tron might pay homage to a Science Fiction character, but it won't do that child any favors in life. Luckily, most parents have the common sense to name their children normal but sometimes unique names.

In the end, parents should shy away from puns, numbers, and nouns. Audio Science is a real person, and that's not really okay. Hospitals won't even let parents name their kids with vulgarities or questionable names. A unique name that actually makes sense for a newborn is fine. However, a name that defies logic and reason should be thrown in the garbage. The reality is that children can be heckled for the rest of their life because of their name. Too much uniqueness doesn't always help anyone.
