Marcel Marceau did talk, a lot, but never on stage. He was very vocal when he taught and could go on for ever. His lectures were always informative and interesting as he explained his approach to mime performance.

He is known for speaking the only word in the Mel Brooks film, 'Silent Movie'. The word he spoke was 'NON!'.

Just to answer another question. Though born in Strasbourg in northern France, Marceau lived most of his life on his estate just outside Paris. He died in Cahor surrounded by his family. His ex- wife Anne Sicco, was artisic director of a company in the town and insisted on him passing his last days with them there. Many friends, tutors from his school and past students visited him before he died and were happy to see the great man so comfortable on his last journey.
