In a manner of speaking, yes, he did leave his wife and children in Stratford when he went off to London to pursue a career in theatre. However, he presumably did so with his wife's consent and support. He was able to contribute to the support of his family, becoming rather well-to-do from his theatrical enterprises, and returned to them when he retired. He stayed in Stratford until his death.

∙ 9y agoYes, for about 25 years he lived and worked in London while his family lived in Stratford-upon-Avon. Presumably he got to visit them sometimes, but we are not sure how often.
