OLED is a form of LED and is making its way into television technology.

Currently, it is an expensive technology but expect it to drop in price during 2012 and 2013.

The technology uses LEDs to directly generate an image with a red, green and blue LED for every pixel. It has the capability to deliver high contrasts, fast response times and a simple assembly that reduces cabinet sizes down to well under an inch thick.

Long term LED life is currently an issue but this will be resolved in the fairly near future. It is likely that OLED will become the most common display technology in the coming years.

I've heard of plasma and LCD televisions but I'm not familiar with oled tvs. What's the diffence in a oled tv?

OLED's are brighter than LEDs, OLED's do not require Backlighting. They are easier to produce and can be made to larger sizes. They are expensive, water easily damages them.

because oleds are light emitting themselves therefore they need no background illumination which uses much power (CFL more than LED Backlights)

How is white oled tv more cost effective compare to standard oled tv Tech reviews are claiming that white oled tv is more cost effective than standard oled tv please explain it?

White OLED refers to the LG technique of adding a white LED to the red, green and blue LEDs in their OLED display panels. LG claim that it produces more faithful reproduction than just using red, green and blue elements. Whether or not that is the case is a matter of opinion. Before investing, it is always important to audition several models of television. Compare LG's white OLED screen to other OLEDs and you can decide whether LG have made an improvement.

How much of energy can be saved by watching oled tv instead of watching led-lcd tv?

OLED TV actually consumes much less power comparing to any other LCD or LED TVs. It's like OLED consumes almost 70% less power than LCD TV, but there are already some energy saving LED TVs in the market. Even so, OLED TVs are a lot more energy efficient, consuming about 40% less power than any latest LED TVs. That is again one of the strong points of OLED TV.

Are LCD hdtvs as reliable as oled hdtvs?

Would OLED display or a LCD display use more battery power?

OLED displays use LEDs to generate illumination to directly generate an image. The LEDs can turn completely off in the black parts of the image. They are only running at full brightness in the white areas of the image. On the other hand, LCD displays use a light behind the liquid crystal display panel and the light is on whenever the television is running. The light can be either cold cathode tubes or LEDs but in both cases, they will tend to use more power than the OLED model. This assumes that each model is a similar size and draws a similar power to process the video signals before they are displayed.
