There are no plans for Rita, who is played by Barbara Knox, to leave the show. In December 2010, she was trapped in the corner shop when the tram had crashed into it and she was seriously injured from that. No one knew she was down there so she easily could have died, but there are no plans for Rita to die or leave the show just yet.
