If the definition of a tragic hero is a character with a lot of lines who ends up dead at the end of the play, Brutus fits the bill. So for that matter does Cassius. It was not important for Shakespeare to have a tragic hero in every tragedy--that concept arose long after he stopped writing.
Brutus was among a group of Roman senators that believed Julius Caesar had too much power. Brutus felt that any hope of returning Rome back into some form of a republic would be lost if Caesar was allowed to continue on the path he was following. Brutus believed that Julius Caesar wanted to become the king of the Roman empire. Brutus became a secret enemy of Caesar. He certainly had fear of his own life as Caesar had dictatorial powers and could use them against any internal Roman foe. Based on this Brutus conspired to assassinate Julius Caesar. The deed was accomplished in the Senate chambers and Brutus was among those who stabbed Caesar to death, thus the tragedy of Caesar and the lament of Caesar's friends.
When Julius Caesar saw that his dear friend Marcus Brutus was also heading to kill him(and eventually did), he could not take the pain and exclaimed 'Et tu brute'(Latin)- 'You also Brutus'.
It depends on whose "story of Julius Caesar" we are talking about. In most such stories Caesar is the main character. However if we are talking about Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar (which is a play and not a story), Caesar is actually dead for most of the play, which suggests that he is not the main character. Some people have argued that the short appearance of his ghost just before the Battle of Philippi and Cassius's remarks about how he will die by the same sword as Caesar mean that Caesar's spirit is at work even after his death, until his murderers are dead. However, that is stretching a point. It is simpler to say that Brutus is the main character in the play, since the real focus is on him and on the kind of political idealism (or possibly naiveté) he demonstrates.
No. I suppose this is up to the individual director of a performance, who could make them kiss if he/she wanted to, but Shakespeare himself never wrote a stage direction for Brutus and Portia to kiss.
Brutus cares for Rome more than himself which is how he came to the place of killing Caesar. he didn't want the good of Rome and the love he had for it to go to waste when Caesar became is power.one of the main people in the conspiracy in the murder of Caesar, in saying that in the beginning of the play/book Brutus is shown to have not one selfish bone in his body. he is very honest but also ver conflicted.
Julius Caesar knew a guy called Brutus because he had an affair with Brutus' mother and Brutus would sometimes go to Julius' house. A rumour then began that Brutus wanted to kill a politician called Pompey, Julius helped Brutus out saying it was all a lie. Then in 44BC(the year Julius was killed), Brutus was part of a plot to murder Julius. Brutus played a major role, distracting Julius so someone could stab him in the neck.

There is an erroneous myth that Julius Caesar could have been the father of Brutus. This is highly unlikely as Brutus was only 15 years younger than Caesar. Caesar would have had to have been only 14 years old at Brutus' conception. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.

Julius Caesar was attacked by the Senate and the final death blow was delivered from his mistress' son, Brutus. Julius Caesar was killed on the Ides Of March (March 15th) 44 BC.
Cassius and Brutus were brothers-in-law, and were presumed to be close friends. Cassius trusted Brutus and wanted to let him in because he was close to Julius Caesar and could help guide their blades to him without suspicion.

This statement meant that in Brutus and Caesar were equals. The significance of this line is that it suggests that Brutus could rule Rome.
