Lysander fell in love with Helena because Puck mistook him for Demetrius and put the juice of the magical flower on his eyes. Helena was the first thing Lysander saw when he woke up and due to the aspects of the magical flower, he fell in love with her. To correct his mistake, after instructed by Oberon, Puck then puts the juice from the magical flower on Demetrius' eyes. The first thing Demetrius saw was Helena. They were in love with her at the same time.

∙ 12y agoShe, Helena feels as though Hermia, must have traded bodies with her or something close, like she lives in a dream until Hermia does not agree with having no one and they have a huge fight even though Helena never wanted Lysander to love her, and completly forget about Hermia, who were entitled to marry that very morning.

∙ 10y agoHelena lacks self-esteem. She shows it by asking Hermia to teach her how to attract Demetrius, when she begs Demetrius to treat her like his spaniel, when she says that she is "ugly as a bear". How could Lysander or Demetrius love someone who is ugly as a bear? She just can't believe it.

She does not believe herself worthy of anyone's love, and hopes to get Demetrius's love by offering to do demeaning things, like be like a spaniel to him. She cannot believe that Lysander would spontaneously make a declaration of love for her. According to her she is "ugly as a bear".

What us a midsummers night dream by shakespeare about?
The main story line is that two couples have run away into the woods outside Athens. Lysander and Hermia love each other, and are attempting to elope together. Demetrius also loves Hermia, and is following them. Helena loves Demetrius, and is following him. The King of the Fairies, Oberon, tells his assistant Puck to rub a love potion onto Demetrius' eyes - so that Demetrius will fall in love with Helena (and there will be two couples). Puck rubs the potion on Lysander's eyes by mistake, but then realises and rubs some on Demetrius' too. So now Lysander and Demetrius both love Helena, but nobody loves Hermia.
