Jem was angry at the dog because the dog was a sign of racism.
Jem walked scout to the pageant at her school
Jem was disappointed about Miss Caroline's reaction to Scout's participation in the pageant. He expected the pageant to be a positive experience, but Miss Caroline's lack of understanding and support for Scout's efforts made him feel let down. He hoped for a more encouraging environment, reflecting his desire for fairness and acknowledgment of their hard work.
Jem
On their way to the pageant in "To Kill a Mockingbird," the Finch children, Scout and Jem, are frightened by the mysterious figure of Boo Radley. They feel a mix of fear and curiosity about Boo, as he is a reclusive neighbor who is the subject of local myths and rumors. Their anxiety is heightened when they hear strange noises and feel as though they are being watched, illustrating their childhood fears and the themes of innocence and misunderstanding in the novel.
It is for the kids to show of there Halloween costumes to the people in the town. It was held the night before Halloween. Bob Ewell also tried to kill jem and scout after it while they were walking back to there house. This is one of the few times that we here about Boo but it is the first and only time that jem and scout actually see boo radley.
Jem is impressed with Atticus and he responds by saying that Atticus is a gentleman like him. Jem is Atticus' son in To Kill A Mockingbird.
After the incident with the mad dog, Jem develops a newfound respect for his father, Atticus. He sees Atticus's marksmanship skills and calm demeanor in handling the situation, which impresses him. Jem's admiration for his father grows as he realizes the depth of Atticus's courage and abilities.
When Jem looks up to Atticus and knows that he is a gentleman, and finds out that Atticus is very good at shooting birds. That is one of Atticus's talents, so then Jem sees what kind of a gentleman Atticus really is.
Jem feels ashamed of Atticus because he perceives his father as old-fashioned and lacking the physical prowess that he associates with masculinity, especially when comparing him to other fathers who are more active and assertive. Atticus redeems himself in the incident with the rabid dog when he swiftly demonstrates his exceptional marksmanship, shooting the dog with precision. This revelation not only surprises Jem and Scout but also earns their respect, showing them that true strength lies in skill and responsibility, rather than mere physicality. Through this act, Atticus embodies the moral integrity and courage he values, reinforcing his role as a principled figure in their lives.
Jem does not want anyone at school to know about the incident because he fears people will judge or make fun of Atticus for having to shoot the rabid dog. He wants to protect his father's reputation and avoid any gossip or ridicule from his classmates.
He doesn't want atticus to feel that he cannot be trusted.
Through the incident with the rabid dog, Jem and Scout learn that Atticus possesses hidden talents and abilities, such as superior marksmanship. They also see his calmness and courage in dealing with dangerous situations, which earns him respect from the community. I assume you mean Jem, Atticus' son. Before Atticus shoots the 'mad dog', Jem believes his father to be quite useless in that he is too old to play sports. However, after witnessing Atticus shoot the dog, he learns several things. Firstly is the importance of modesty, secondly is that his father is not useless at all, and thirdly is that his father's traits are admirable. At the end of that chapter, Jem proclaims that he is a gentlemen, just like Atticus. He learns to look up to and respect his dad.
Because atticus stood up for what he believed in.They were shocked because Jem and Scout always believed their dad was boring and old. When he was able to kill the dog in one shot made them realize that he wasn't.
Jem's focus on maintaining a positive relationship with Atticus indicates that he values his father's approval and respects him. It shows that Jem sees Atticus as a role model and cares about his opinion and judgment. Jem's real desire to keep on good terms with Atticus highlights the importance of their bond and the influence Atticus has on him.
During the mad dog incident, Jem and Scout realize their father, Atticus, is an expert marksman and has a hidden talent that he rarely talks about. They also learn that Atticus values courage and self-control, as shown by his composed demeanor and skill in handling dangerous situations.
A mad dog (Tim Johnson) came into the neighborhood so Atticus shot him right into that rabid dog's right eye. Miss Maudie told Scout and Jem that Atticus was also known as "One Shot Finch." So that was what made them surprised and proud. :)
