You could go by boat. London was a seaport and travel by sea was faster than travel by land. It was also possible to use the river to travel.

If you could not travel by water, and were forced to go by land, you could go by horse, if you could afford one, or by horse-drawn carriage, if you were really rolling in money, or, if you were most people, you could walk. The roads were terrible and it took a long time to get anywhere.
