How did shakespeare depict hero and her dad?

Hero is a bit of a dishrag. Her character is not particularly interesting. In many ways she is a foil to her much more interesting cousin Beatrice. When Claudio slanders her, she collapses in a heap, while Beatrice tries to induce Benedick to kill Claudio.

Leonato is a kindly, hospitable and patient man, full of good humour. His patience when dealing with the idiot Dogberry is notable. But even such a man can be provoked into anger and he challenges Claudio to fight after Claudio's slander of Hero.
