Really it's saying is that Macbeth is not worried about them because one of the witches told him not to worry about any man born of woman. He can care less about him and their soldiers. He's also saying that him and Malcolm could have talked it out man to man without the soldiers. Macbeth and his army can beat them all the way back to England.
They react emotionally to the last thing they heard and do not remember the second-to-last thing they heard. They do not react differently from the way people react to the news nowadays.
