It's contribution is in the fact that younger people watched it and had no idea they were actually watching Shakespeare. The detraction is that it is modernized and the feeling doesn't come through. All in all anything that makes younger viewers see Shakespeare in any form is a plus, and the script and acting was fantastic.
Well, a play on the subject of Macbeth was famously written by William Shakespeare in around 1605. A number of movies have been made based on this play or on a plot similar in some way to it.
You might want to consider the movie Throne of Blood (in Japanese 蜘蛛巣城, Kumonosu-jō, "Spider Web Castle") a 1957 Kurosawa films starring Toshiro Mifune. It transposes MacBeth to medieval Japan. Even more gore than the original! And better ghosts!
'The Life of Brian' was banned by Glasgow City Council.

The screenplay was written shortly before the movie was shot.
since the king of Scotland was so famous for him to do a movie it cost him a FORTUNE and when i say FORTUNE i mean 1,000000 to create one single movie
Macbeth ordered the bloody murder of Macduff's wife and children. That would be grounds for revenge in any action movie.
