How much money does a dance instructor make?

My granddaughter's Ballet instructor has tried to discourage her advanced students from banking on a careerin dance because she says the average dancer earns less than $16,ooo per year---hardly enough to survive on. According to her, dance, as a profession, is not very realistic. However, if you sincerely have the passion and drive and come from a family who can afford to support you on an ongoing basis (this latter issue is critical), then she will support their efforts. Another issue is the extremely short "shelf-life" of dancers. She, herself, was finished at 20, and most, if not all , of her most promising students over the years were out for health and injury reasons before they even finished their master's programs.

Her advice: Dance for joy, fun, exercise, peace of mind and passion. But always have a PLAN B ready for income and survival.

There are many different paychecks in the world for different dance jobs. It depends where it is, you would have to schecdule a interview or look at the pamphlet. So i can't give you a straight answer.

Salaries for dance teachers range by area, education and student body. A beginner teacher may make between 12.00and 18.00n per hour where an experienced or degree holding teacher can make from 25.00 to 50.00 per hour. People are also paid by student headcount with the studio taking a flat fee. Remember most studios are seasonal and are from September to spring concert so you might have to supplement summer income.

If you are asking this, I don't think you've got it. It takes your entire life, up until around 45 to become a professional ballet teacher. You must learn at an early age and continue training vigorously.
