The only thing I can think of was the fact the actress/Songstress successfully crossed over from Opera into popular music- Not Done! at the time with a handful of exceptions. Her theme Song-Love me Forever- dates from l933 and was successfully revived by modern artists in the fifties and sixties. Song is somewhat controversial as it suggests a suicide pact- and that was heady stuff for "33) She was in at least eight movies from l933-35 and they were highly popular. It is true Lily Pons did one or two cameo roles- but Grace was BOTH an operatic singer AND a movie actress and popular artist. That"s the unconventional angle. Robert Merrill"s anthem antics are not remotely the same.
