It really depends what you consider "appropriate." Based on modern ratings, the movie is rated PG-13. Some parents would simply look at the rating and decide it is not appropriate for young children. However, if you are a parent and you think that your child will be able to sit through violent themes and language, then I say go right ahead. I saw the movie when I was about nine, but I wasn't bothered much by whether it was appropriate.
