Well, there has been no shortage of Broadway shows that closed in one night. But I have heard a legend that suggests there was a show produced on Broadway (in the 20's perhaps?) that had a large cast, including about 2 dozen "little people," or, as they were known back then, "midgets."
The story I heard suggested that some of the little people had been imbibing in adult refreshments before their entrance; that a dispute, possibly over a woman, had broken out; that it divided the team into two camps, which became a violent brawl.
Since the team of little people made their collective entrance in the second act, and since a significant number were supposedly incapacitated before the fight was broken up, this show (whose title I do not recall) is supposed to hold the distinction of the shortest Broadway run ever...because the one performance was discontinued at intermission.
I wish I COULD recall the title, because I believe the word "Turkeys" was in that title, and it was suggested that this show was the genesis for the theatrical slang term for flop: "turkey."
Anyone have any more info on this? Or is this just urban legend?
